Hydrocurrent® ORC Products

Hydrocurrent® ORC Modules

Calnetix’s Hydrocurrent™ Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) systems are designed to capture waste heat aboard ships and convert it into electricity for shipboard consumption.  The ORC systems can recover heat with temperatures as low as 80⁰C to produce up to 125kW of clean power and still leave enough heat for the fresh water maker.  The systems can be easily retrofitted in existing ships and reduce the load on ships bunker-fueled generators, which can result in a savings of up to 200 tons per year per ship.

Hydrocurrent systems have been design specifically for marine use with the following attributes:

  • Easy to retrofit
  • No interference with ship operation
  • No operator assistance necessary- system turns on and off automatically based on the heat source properties
  • Minimal maintenance
  • Sea water cooling for the condenser
  • Heat reserve to make fresh water on board
  • Designed under NK and Lloyds guidelines
  • Designed for static and dynamic angels of inclination for extreme sea conditions

The Hydrocurrent™ Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) 125EJW captures heat from marine engine jacket water and convert it to electricity for shipboard consumption. Similar to Access Energy’s Hydrocurrent ORC 125EJW product, Calnetix is developing the Hydrocurrent ORC 125EEX to recover heat from engine exhaust and the Hydrocurrent ORC 125ESA to recover heat from engine scavenge air.  More information will be available in the near future.
